Volunteer!

Our swim team relies on parent volunteers! It takes EVERYONE to make a swim meet run smoothly and efficiently.

  • Backup Timer - Start your stopwatch when each heat starts and be ready to hand it off to a Timer if need (stopwatch malfunction, forgot to start timer, etc).
  • Hospitality (Home meets only) - Hand out bottled water to other volunteers during the meet
  • Stingray Bucks - Responsible for passing out prizes to heat winners
  • Referee (Home meets only) - TRAINING REQUIRED*
  • Runner (Home meets only) - Collect DQ slips and timers' sheets and bring to the scorer's table
  • Scorer - Will sit at scorer's table with a member of opposing team and review times, disqualifications, and finishes. They will enter times into the computer on home events.
  • Stroke & Turn Officials - TRAINING REQUIRED* - officials are in charge of 2-3 lanes typically, looking for illegal strokes, turns, starts, etc. If you have completed a one summer of S&T, you now may complete an online test to opt out of the in person training.
  • Timer - Time an individual lane with stopwatch and record times. You're paired with a timer from the opposing team so that there are two timers per lane. Backup timer will be responsible for covering any malfunctioning watches, bathroom breaks, missed starts, etc. We typically split the meet in half with a first and second half timer session. So if you have a 6 and under that is done halfway through the meet, you are able to leave after the first half is complete.
  • Stingray Zone - locate assigned age group swimmers prior to their events.
  • Stingray Zone Runner - Assist in lining up swimmers in heat and lane order.

*You must attend a clinic to volunteer for both

  • Stroke and turn official - We always need stroke and turn officials (4 per meet) and it is a fun way to be involved and see your kiddos up close! If you have not had training before, you must attend in person. Returning volunteers will have an on-line session.
  • Referee/Starter - you must have been an official for two years to volunteer for this position.
    • Clinic qualifies as a stroke and turn clinic for those that have been a stroke and turn judge for 2 years or more. The reason for this is that it is an abbreviated clinic that also focuses on refereeing and starting as well.

The clinics only take about an hour and even if you do not volunteer in this position for us, it is a great way to learn about the sport and be "qualified" by attending.
