Guide to Marking Your Swimmer
Sharpies, Heat Sheet/Entries List boards will be available in the Stingray Zone at each meet. HOWEVER, it is a huge help if parents can mark their swimmer's with a Sharpie before leaving home, especially our youngest swimmers who do not know how to do this themselves upon arrival to the meet.
On the back of their RIGHT shoulder, using a Sharpie marker, write...
- Swimmer's name in big letters
- Age group (ie 6U, 7-8, 9-10)
- "NS" for New Sherwood
On their arm or leg (facing towards them, so they can read it!), using a Sharpie marker, create a grid with columns for:
- E - Event (use an * to indicate relays if you prefer)
- H - Heat
- L - Lane
- S - Stroke (optional)
Consult the heat sheet and the Entries list by name (this will give you Event # and Stroke but you will have to consult heat sheet for Heat and Lane) to find your swimmer's information. Hightlighting their name is a good way to quickly relocate the information.
The Medley Relay order (read left to right, top to bottom on heat sheet) is
- 1st leg BACK
- 2nd leg BREAST
- 3rd leg FLY
- 4th leg FREE
The Freestyle Relay is listed in the same way as Medley. ALL swimmers will swim Freestyle.
*Warning: Markers tend to wander throughout the Stingray Zone despite the best efforts of our volunteers. "Eat My Bubbles" and "Feel the Sting" are popular sayings kids like to write on their backs, but don't be surprised to see other creative body art and self expression... Sharpie marked children are a staple of summer at our pool. We promise it does eventually fade away... spray sunscreen has been known to accelerate the process.
