Practice Policies
PRACTICE ATTENDANCE GOAL = ONE PRACTICE PER DAY
We will begin the season one week prior to the official pool opening date with afternoon practices only, Monday through THURSDAY - we NEVER hold practice on Friday afternoons. Once schools release for the summer, we will begin morning practice sessions, Monday through Friday (we DO hold practices on Friday mornings). We understand that only those out of school, will be able to attend these morning sessions until all WS/FCS schools release for summer vacation. Afternoon practices will continue during this time and for the entirety of the season.
Attendance will not be taken and there is no need to notify your coach of specific absences. However, if your swimmer will miss an extended number of practice days (ie. for camp or vacation), coaches should be notified.
After Memorial Day opening weekend, afternoon practices should be reserved for those that have morning conflicts (daycare, day camp, etc...). With the pool officially open, available lane space for swim team during afternoon practices is limited to 3-4 lanes. For this reason, once morning practices begin, we ask swimmers who are able to attend mornings to prioritize these practice sessions since we have unlimited use of the pool and all 6 lanes in the morning before the pool opens to general membership.
Coaches are constantly evaluating your child's needs in practice and progressing them as necessary. They are placed in skill lanes based on ability, in order to maximize safety and stroke development. This means that your swimmer may be grouped with others of similar ability but not necessarily the same age.
WEATHER POLICY
Stingrays practice rain or shine - there is always a 100% guarantee of getting wet during swim practice, therefore we DO hold practice in the rain. We follow pool policy during thunderstorms and DO NOT permit swimmers in the water during thunder or on deck if lightening is spotted. Practices will be postponed for 30 min from the last thunder or lightening strike. Practice cancellations/updates in response to weather will be sent as text alerts or posted to website HOME page.
