The Week Ahead (6/8-6/14) (Declare for CW meet and City meet!)

Hi Stingray families, we had some great practices this past week and are ready for our first league dual meet against Clemmons West on Tuesday!

Clemmons West meet Tuesday

PLEASE DECLARE YOUR SWIMMERS' AVAILABILITIES BY 6PM TONIGHT!  Whether you plan on attending or not, please let us know.  And while you're at it, go ahead and declare your availability for the rest of the meets if you know your schedule.  We start building our meet and lineups on Sunday evening/Monday morning, so it is imperative we know early.  When declaring, you also have the option for a coaches note that we will take into consideration.  Is your kid terrified of doing butterfly or an IM?  Let us know so we don't put them in the event.  For those declared for the meet, I will send a detailed email tomorrow afternoon.

After 6PM tonight, if there are any changes, please text Coach Jenn at 336-340-7410.

We also still have a few volunteer openings for the meet.  If you can help, please sign up at the jobs button next to the meet on the schedule.  If you are signed up for something, but are no longer able, please let us know so we can remove you.  You can still make these changes until Monday evening/Tuesday morning at midnight.

Pre-Meet Popsicles

Please join us for popsicles on the playground prior to the meet.  This is also a great opportunity for the big/little buddies to meet each other to cheer each other on during the meet.  I have attached a slightly updated version of the buddy list in this email.

Free team t-shirt/cap and purchased merch pick-up

Nikki Bonifas will once again have a table set up prior to the meet to pick up any ordered merchandise as well as the free team t-shirts and caps.  Please visit her to pick up your gear!

City Meet

The deadline for declaring for City Meet is this coming Wednesday, June 10th at 5PM.  This is a strict deadline.  If you have any questions about city meet or how to add yourself as an adult swimmer to our team, please refer to my previous city meet email.  It's a great event!

Practices

Normal practice times this week.  Enfinity Aquatic Club will be our guest instructors on Monday morning. We do still have practice on meet mornings.  They are usually pretty light and focus on starts, turns, etc.  Obviously, no practice on Tuesday evening.

A Stingray Zone Request

USA swimming does not allow cameras to be used behind the blocks during its meets for safety reasons.  Based on this rule, we want to be sensitive to the spirit behind the rule and avoid any possible mis-usage of phones/cameras.  We understand the possible necessity for a swimmer in the Stingray Zone to be able to contact their parents, so we don't want to ban phones completely.  But we would like swimmers to refrain from using their phones in the Stingray Zone, out of concern for our youngest participants, being mindful that 9 or 10 year olds are very different from 6 year olds in terms of what content is proper, as well as individual parent preferences.  Additionally, children in bathing suits.  All this to say that we want to head off any potential issues before they happen and messiness ensues.  This has not been a real problem yet, but it does provide a worry.  Thanks for everyone's help in making our swim team a fun, safe, drama-free environment.

Swimmers of the Week

Treya Madden

Coach Jenn says:  She’s worked hard this week on her technique and tightening her streamline. Love her willingness to try things and make adjustments

Tommy Suter

Coach Isabella says:  He has maintained a very positive attitude during time trials and is always open to improvement.

Rowyn Schindler

Coach Reese says:  She had great freestyle and is very coachable in her backstroke. She works hard and is always improving!

Kane Feltis

Coach Sam says:  He made great improvements in the little things and his ability to listen and apply impressed me.

Tilley Cooke

Coach Graham says:  She always has a good attitude and never complains. Also had very good swims while being the youngest at time trials.

Thanks again, Stingray families.  Everyone should be proud of the hard work all of our swimmers are putting in.  This will be a great week!

Go Stingrays!
