Weekly Recap and Looking Ahead
Hey all, I hope everyone had a great week and is ready for the first week post-public school.
Stingray Relays (Intrasquad)
Please declare your swimmers' availabilities for this Tuesday's relay-focused meet. In this meet, each swimmer will swim their individual freestyle race and the rest of the meet is comprised of a variety of relays. We will also be having a dessert buffet and we may have our DJ take it up a notch. The goal for this meet is to improve on relays, but also as always, FUN. Please declare your availability by 9AM tomorrow morning (Monday) so we can start creating the heats and making the relay teams. If you have any changes past that time, please text Jeremy at 336-416-2496.
City Meet
Please consider signing up for city meet! Entries are due June 13th, so we don't have a lot of time. The cost is $8/swimmer and $5/individual event. We will cover the cost of relays. You are able to choose which events you and your children would like to compete in. And if you are a parent, consider dusting off your speedo and jumping into some races. Let me know you are planning to swim and I can add you as a over-19 swimmer. Create a relay comprised of your kids or your friends or neighbors. Don't miss out on this fun meet! And if you compete, consider pre-ordering a meet t-shirt. You can do this and pay for your meet fees through our merch store on Swimtopia.
Practices
Now that public school is out, we hope to see an increase in morning swimmers. Morning practices are much better for improving strokes and getting in some better repetition. It also eases the burden on those who need to do the afternoon practices. Morning practice times remain the same (6u from 9:45-10:15, 7-10s from 9:00-10:00, and 11 & up from 10:00-11:00). And thank you for the flexibility you all showed in adjusting our afternoon practice times. We will now resume our normal afternoon practice schedule of 6u from 5:00-5:30, 7-8s 5:30-6:15, and 9 & up from 6:15-7:15.
Swimmers of the Week
Lee Powell
Coach Emma says: Lee is my swimmer of the week because of his performance in the Medley Relay at the Brookberry meet! He came back from behind and caught the kid beside him and finished with his head down out touching the lane beside him!
Maddie Kiraly
Coach Lucy says: Maddie is my swimmer of the week because of how she stepped in at the last minute to swim a relay at Brookberry.
Samuel Forrest
Coach Catherine says: I chose Samuel because he always shows great effort and enthusiasm. He had a fantastic meet against Brookberry, with an awesome butterfly race and good sportsmanship!
Grant Wolfe
Coach William says: I chose Grant because he had a great meet and he has really been working hard during practice.
Griffin Powell
Coach Ben says: He swam a very fast and good butterfly 50 when it is his least favorite stroke
Brooks Huggins
Coach Claire says: Brooks beat his seed time in the 25 free by 15 seconds and the 25 free by 14 seconds!
Great work all around! I found our sportsmanship to be really good at Brookberry as well. Win or lose, shaking the hand of your opponent post-swim says a lot about the character of our swimmers and team.
Looking ahead
Our next league meet is June 18th when we host the Sherwood Sharks. It will be Hawaiian-themed! Dress in Hawaiian shirts, wear leis, practice your shaka signs, whatever. Let's have some fun!
Thanks again for all of your support. We have such an incredible community.
Go Stingrays!
