Stingray Relays (Intrasquad meet) and City Meet
Hi all, I wanted to make you aware of a couple upcoming events now that we have a little more info.
Stingray Relays
This is the intrasquad meet that we have scheduled for this next Tuesday, June 11th at our normal league meet times. This meet is for ALL AGES and will feature each swimmer in an individual freestyle, but also all the relays we could fit in, including mixed boy/girl relays. The meet will be capped by our "Coach's Challenge" race, which will be a 6-leg freestyle relay race open to any 6-person team. We are hoping we could get some creative teams to challenge the coaches who will be occupying one lane in the race. Let's get a parent team out there in one lane! Maybe a 6-person family or friend group made up of kids/adults. Whatever! This will be a physical sign up sheet located on the bulletin board at the pool. Please only sign a team up if you have the 6 requisite swimmers. There will only be one heat!
Both meet entry sign ups and job sign ups are now open and available at the green sign up buttons next to the event. This meet will also feature a dessert buffet! There is also a sign up available for desserts to bring to the meet. Please sign up for ALL THE THINGS!
City Meet
Let's talk about City Meet. I love City Meet. City Meet is great. City Meet is fun. City Meet prepares your swimmers for a league finals environment. You should sign up for City Meet.
The Robin Jacobs City Meet is June 21st. Entries are due by June 13th. It occurs at Bolton Pool and features all the local city swim teams. It consists of 2 sessions: 10 & under starts at 10AM. The 11 & up group starts at roughly 2:45 PM. When you are not in an event, the rest of the Bolton Pool is available to swim in, so even if you only have 1 swimmer and maybe a little sibling, the little sibling will still have a morning at the pool. Not a bad deal.
There are entry fees. There is an $8/swimmer fee, plus $5/event. You can choose whatever events you would like to swim in. There are also many very fun relays. Our swim team will pay for the cost of the relays.
There are lots of things to love about City Meet, but my 3 favorite things are seeing all of the city's pools represented and reconnecting with friends from different schools, sports, etc. Another aspect I love is the OPEN age group. Former swimmer? Aspiring swimmer? Just want to swim in a meet with your kids? There are fair number of adults who will swim in this meet. Which leads to my 3rd favorite thing about City Meet -- the relays. If you have 4 swimmers in your family, you can have a family relay. Maybe you just want a friends relay or a neighborhood relay. Maybe you and your friends are former swimmers who want to scratch that competitive itch. There are both High Point Team Awards and High Point Individual awards, so dominate your competition in the name of New Sherwood!
For adults to enter city meet, I will need to designate you as an over-19 swimmer in swimtopia, so please let me know if you are interested. I can assure you we have several adults who will be swimming at the meet. To pay all fees for the meet, you can select them in our swimtopia merch store. To pre-order a meet t-shirt that features all the participants' names on the back, you can order in the merch store. A limited number of shirts will be available the day of the meet for $25.
Additionally, this year's meet is Toy Story-themed, so it is encouraged to dress with the theme and decorate our team tent in the style, as well.
Just remember, this is all due June 13th, so please act fast and register for one of my favorite events in Winston Salem.
Thanks for getting through all this way and please email or text me with any questions.
