“City Meet” - Friday, June 23
Bolton Pool, 1590 Bolton Street
NOW let’s talk City Meet…This meet is not part of our GFSL schedule, additional fees apply, and many of you may not know much about it. So sit down, read on and digest the info. Then give some thought to participation. We will need to submit our entries for City Meet by the end of THIS week so will ask you to complete meet declarations ASAP.
City Meet is a YMCA TYDE hosted meet and a long time New Sherwood tradition. For over a decade, each summer New Sherwood has sent a contingent to compete at City Meet. Teams from our GFSL and other leagues around the city, as well as unattached swimmers AND adults (coaches, master swimmers, parents can compete in the “Open” age group). It’s an all day event - morning session for 10 and Under and afternoon session 11 and Over. In addition to the competition, which is held in a 25 yd section of the diving well, the main large section of the pool will be open for use by all in attendance - parents, little sibs, etc…
Swimmers can sign up for a max of 4 individual events of their own choice at $5 splash fee/individual event + $8/swimmer surcharge. Coaches will then assign them to relays depending on the number of swimmers we have in particular age groups (swimmers may swim up in age to complete a relay grouping). The team will fund the relay entries at $12/relay event. Once you complete your swimmer/s declarations on SwimTopia Meet Signup, you can either complete payment online through our Merchandise Team Store or you can submit cash or check to league reps by Wed 6/21. Checks should be made payable to New Sherwood Swim Team.
New Sherwood Team at City Meet is not limited only to our current swim team members. Individuals can affiliate with our team if they are currently a member of New Sherwood (ie. parents and older sibs who may have aged out of swim team), New Sherwood coaches and/or lifeguards.
The OPEN age group is 19 and Over and historically we often have a coaches relay and some parent relays - including Mixed Relays (2 male/2 female). This is a fun chance for former summer league swimmers and parents with (or without!) a long history of swimming to compete for New Sherwood. Swimmers must compete in at least 1 individual event to compete in a relay. Since these swimmers will not be able to complete meet declarations in our SwimTopia system, interested individuals should complete this City Meet Entry for Non Swim Team Members to sign up.

Overflow parking is available at Bolton Elementary School or Trinity Presbyterian Church. Both are located one block from the pool on Bolton Street just beyond the exit ramp to Silas Creek Parkway.
3. "Finding Nemo” Theme: Team Spirit Award is presented to the winning team for display at their home pool. Come dressed for the part or bring something to decorate our tents and “just keep swimming…”
4. New Sherwood Tents: Coaches will plan to arrive by 8:30 to set up tents poolside for Stingray parents in our assigned team area. Look for our "Feel the Sting" banner. Our team will remain together in this area - we will not have a separate SZ area for this meet. We will have Stingray Zone games/toys in this area to keep the kids entertained. And kids will be permitted to play in the open pool area during the meet.
5. Clerk of Course (AM Session ONLY): Think “Stingray Zone on steroids” - COC will be run for all 25 yard events by TYDE volunteers. Our 10 and Unders will be escorted to this area by our coaches to get lined up with their heats. It will be located behind the diving board end to the left of the splash park zone. NS coaches will help wrangle kids to walk to COC before their events. Although they are free to play in the open pool area, participating swimmers should remain close to our area throughout the session. Please help us keep track of your children as well, we don't want anyone to miss their events. Swimmers may start from either the concrete deck or the gutter but not both. Use of the starting block is NOT required.
6. Psych Sheet/Heat Sheets: Psych sheet will be posted on the TYDE Swim Team website under Meets/Events -> 2023 Robin Jacobs City Meet" as soon as it is available. This is a complete list of all participating swimmers in each event ordered by seed times. Electronic heat sheets will be posted on the meet page prior to the meet and accessible via QR code at the meet. This will be the meet schedule broken down into events, heats and lanes. FYI - The psych sheet will be available before the heat sheet is released.
7. Timer Assignments: Each team is responsible for providing 2 timers per session. 1st half timers will need to report roughly 30 minutes before the start of each session for a timers' briefing. Please use City Meet “Job Signup'' on our SwimTopia website to volunteer.
8. Awards: High Point Winners in each Age group will receive an individual prize. Our very own Coach Catherine and Libby Keit were past High Point winners
9. Meet T-shirts: You can preorder a T-shirt from our Merchandise Team Store site online. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the meet for $20, however sizes/quantities may be limited.
10. Vendors: There will be concessions available throughout the day. Ice cold lemonade is a long-standing City Meet tradition, usually made fresh by TYDE athletes. Coolers with food/snacks/drinks are permitted; however NO alcohol is allowed inside of Bolton Park including on the pool deck.
