Let's talk City Meet...
2022 Robin Jacobs Greater Winston-Salem Swimming Championships
"CITY MEET"
Friday, June 24
Bolton Pool, 1590 Bolton Street
Let’s talk City Meet… The deadline for City Meet entries is tomorrow and many of you may not know much about it. So sit down, read on, digest it, and then give it some real thought and complete your Meet Entry declaration by tomorrow morning. It is NEXT Friday. We will not hold a normal morning practice that day.
City Meet is a YMCA TYDE hosted meet and a long time tradition to send a New Sherwood contingent to City Meet. Teams from our GFSL and other leagues around the city as well as unattached swimmers and adults (coaches, master swimmers, recreational swimmers in the “Open” 15 & over age group). It’s an all day event (morning session for littles and afternoon session for bigs) with swim meet, swimming/water fun and friends from all over. In addition to the competition pool which is held in a 25 yd section of the diving well, the main large section of the pool, as well as the splash park area will be open for use by all in attendance - parents, little sibs, etc…
Swimmers can sign up for up to 4 individual events of their own choice at $5/individual event + $7/swimmer surcharge. Coaches will assign them to relays depending on the number of swimmers we have in particular age groups (swimmers may swim up in age to complete a relay grouping). The team will fund the relay entries at $12/relay event. Payments will be collected by Colleen/Christina by next Tues 6/21, checks payable to New Sherwood Pool & Tennis.
1. Gates Open/Facility Entry Times:
- Gates Open: 8:30am (No tents can be set up before this time) - we will have a representative in line before 8:30 with tents to stake out and set up our Stingray area poolside.
- Morning Session (6U, 8U and 9-10 age groups): Warm-ups: 9:00am, Session starts: 10:00am. *Plan to arrive by/before 9:30 am.
- Afternoon Session (11-12, 13-14, Open age groups):Warm-ups: 1:30pm, Session starts: 2:30pm. *Plan to arrive by/before 1 pm.
*Current timeline should allow ~30-40 min between AM and PM sessions, and barring storms, should finish up around 6:30pm.
2. Parking: There is a large parking lot on site, but carpooling is encouraged. No parking is allowed on the dirt road beside or behind the pool. Overflow parking is available at Bolton Elementary School or Trinity Presbyterian Church. Both are located one block from the pool on Bolton Street just beyond the exit ramp to Silas Creek Parkway.
3. "Pirates of Bolton” Theme: Team Spirit Award is presented to the winning team for display at their home pool. Any Pirates out there?? Come dressed for the part or bring something to decorate our tents.
4. New Sherwood Tents: Coaches will plan to be there early to set up tents poolside for Stingray parents. Look for our gray "Feel the Sting" banner and plan to park your chairs here for viewing so we can all sit together. We will also keep some Stingray Zone games in this area to keep the kids entertained.
5. Clerk of Course (AM Session ONLY): Think “Stingray Zone on steroids” - COC will be run for all 25 yard events. 10 and Unders will be escorted to this area by coaches a few events prior to their events to get lined up with their heats. It will be located behind the diving board end to the left of the splash park. NS coaches will help wrangle kids to walk to COC before their events. Although they are free to play in open pool area, participating swimmers should remain close to our tents throughout the session. Please help us keep track of your children as well, we don't want anyone to miss their events. Swimmers may start from either the concrete deck or the gutter but not both. Use of the starting block is NOT required.
6. Psych Sheet/Heat Sheets: Psych sheet will be posted on the TYDE Swim Team websiteunder Meets/Events -> 2022 Robin Jacobs City Meet" as soon as it is available. This is a complete list of all participating swimmers in each event ordered by seed times. Electronic heat sheets will be posted on the meet page prior to the meet and accessible via QR code at the meet. This will be the meet schedule broken down into events, heats and lanes. The psych sheet will be available before the heat sheet.
7. Timer Assignments: Each team is responsible for providing 2 timers per session. We are looking for 3 timers per session to split this coveage. Timers will need to report roughly 30 minutes before the start of each session for a timers' briefing. Please use City Meet “Job Signup” on our website to volunteer.
8. Awards: High Point Winners in each Age group will receive an individual prize. Our very own Coach Catherine and Libby Keit were High Point winners
9. Meet T-shirts: You can preorder a T-shirt for discounted price of $17 by emailing Colleen/Christina with name/size by 6/17 @ 3 PM. Please add this cost into your entry fee payment. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the meet for $20, limited sizes/quantities.
10. Vendors: There will be concessions available throughout the day. Ice cold lemonade is a long-standing City Meet tradition, usually made fresh by athletes. Coolers with food/snacks/drinks are permitted; however NO alcohol is allowed inside of Bolton Park including on the pool deck.
